Our own New Zealand picnic mat, made to sit on wet grass without soaking through. The top is a hard-wearing 600D Oxford cloth in a classic gingham check, and the whole underside is coated in thick PVC, so damp ground stays on the outside.
Sand does not cling to it. Give it a shake at the end of the day and it comes off, and anything left behind wipes away with a damp cloth. The Oxford weave is the same fabric used for tough gear bags, so it will not fray, fade or tear the way a fleece picnic rug does.
Laid out it is a roomy 180 x 150 cm, about 71 by 59 inches, with space for a family of four to sit down and still put the food somewhere. Fold it up and it becomes its own flat carry bag with a shoulder handle, printed with the MC Bear New Zealand design. Pick from Red, Green, Blue or Brown.
